Carmen currently holds the position of Treasurer on the NSWCCPE Executive and brings her valuable former experience as an Accountant and Accounting Software trainer to the role. Carmen’s interest in exploring ways of helping others discover and develop their talents and skills has lead her into the area of pastoral and spiritual care. Carmen’s studies and work to date have mainly been in the area of spirituality, exploring the meaning and purpose of life today and pastoral and spiritual care of the aged, sick and dying. Carmen has a well-developed understanding of spirituality and journeying with others as they explore their own spirituality and relate to others on their journey.
This course is an introduction to the theory and practice of pastoral/spiritual care. It is a qualification required by NSW Health for those wishing to become hospital visitors. It introduces the action/reflection model of learning and covers such topics as listening skills, empathy, an introduction to loss and grief, self-awareness, spirituality and healthcare protocols and procedures. A certificate is awarded on completion.
These courses are aimed at providing intensive training in pastoral/spiritual care by means of supervised group and individual reflection on pastoral conversations. Using an action/reflection method, they require students to complete clinical work by pastoral visiting in assigned hospital wards or other approved locations, together with group work, individual supervision and personal reflection/reading/seminar preparation and verbatim writing.
