This Centre conducts courses in CPE with a focus on the provision of pastoral care in an acute care hospital. We also support newly employed pastoral care providers to meet employer training requirements for residential aged care and prison ministries.
Centre Director
NSWCCPE is looking to appoint a new Centre Director.
What courses are offered?
Both the CPE Introductory Course (40 hours) and Foundational and Advanced Units (both 400 hours) are offered.
Introductory Course
This 40-hour course prepares volunteers who want to pastorally care for patients as hospital visitors. It meets the minimum requirement for all authorised visiting within NSW Health Department Facilities.
Topics discussed include the ethos of pastoral care, listening skills, self-awareness, grief and loss issues, wellness, hospital protocols, role-plays of visiting and discovering our spirituality.
Foundational & Advanced Unit
These 400-hour courses allow trainees to engage in active listening at the bedside with patients, to reflect on the conversation in both a group situation and privately with their supervisor and then carry the learning from these encounters to the next conversation with the patients. They train practitioners in both general and specialist ministries.
